What Clients Say

“We have seen quite a few eating disorder professionals throughout this journey and by far, she is one of the best.”

I came to Arbor Eating Recovery after spending a few years in talk therapy for my eating disorder. I never understood how a dietitian could help me with my ED as I believed my struggles stemmed from my psychology and thus only therapy could help. After more than a year in treatment with my dietitian, I can say with confidence that this work was essential to my journey in recovery. Rebecca has helped me immensely with being able to see food as just food instead of through the negative or positive lens that diet culture and my upbringing has instilled in me. She does an incredible job as a dietitian at making me feel heard. Though recovery is not linear, my work with Rebecca has given me the self confidence and skills to work through tougher moments with my ED.

Mariah has been life changing. As someone who struggled with binge and emotional eating, I tried every possible solution without success. Mariah has helped me understand years of trauma around food, and in my short time with her, I’ve been able to change my feelings, thoughts, and behaviors around food. I can’t say enough how much she’s changed my life.

From where I'm sitting, Rebecca is answering a true calling. I can hardly imagine anyone better suited to her role. She is supremely knowledgeable, and always knows how to find more info when she's unsure. She also has a keen sense for navigating the emotion and uncertainties of her clients. Though she leads our sessions, I always feel as though I am in the driver's seat, which provides the autonomy I need to feel like an authority on my own body. Endlessly patient, kind, and levelheaded. When we encounter issues that are not her subject of expertise, she is always ready with recommendations for practitioners that can help me further my care. The work we do together has helped shift decades of unhelpful thought patterns into something so much more manageable. No notes! Would recommend 110% of the time!

There are plenty in this industry who would rely on quick tricks, fast results, and broad advice. The care I receive at Arbor Eating Recovery isn't like that. Everything we do is highly personalized, and focused on long-term physical and mental health. Plus, on the admin side, everything runs reliably and efficiently, making the actual process of seeing my practitioner very simple.

Having come up in an age of heavy diet culture with a value on instant gratification, I had a hard time setting goals for the long term. I also had a hard time identifying which goals were appropriate for me, given the abundance of information (both trustworthy and not-so-trustworthy) available online. Working with a Rebecca not only helped me identify which goals were a worthwhile pursuit for my specific body and eating history, but also helped me form a roadmap for how to reach those goals, with flexibility that helped us make informed decisions as we learned new information. I have seen a noticeable difference in mindset, which has helped with my decision-making and eating behaviors.

Rebecca has been patient with me and my situation. I’m going slow in my program, but she doesn’t make me feel bad about it. She offers me resources and always says I can contact her between sessions. I am not always cooperative, but she still helps me stay accountable in treating my anorexia.

Mariah was amazing to work with!! I recommend her to anyone that is struggling with eating disorders or any food related issues! She was very caring and supportive of what I was going through. She was very knowledgeable and gave me so much insight to my eating disorder.

Mariah has been nothing but helpful, and so knowledgeable about Eating Disorders, Nutrition, and the steps to take to move forward. I've struggled with eating disorders throughout my entire life, met therapists and multiple doctors along the way, and you can tell she truly cares. Not only is she very aware of one's nutritional needs, but also how they, and eating disorders in general, affect the body and GI tract long term. Because of my bad IBS/SIBO, she's offered to be of help to me/speak with doctors as needed.

Working with Mariah has been incredibly beneficial for me. I struggled with an eating disorder for a long time, and despite having done intensive treatment, I ended up struggling again. Mariah took the time to go at a pace that has made progress a lot more sustainable for me, and has helped me explore different approaches to food and eating that have helped me to gain more confidence in trying new things.
I especially want to highlight that, as someone who lives in a larger body, I know seeking help with eating disorder related issues can be really hard because you never know if a professional may end up being invalidating or harmful. I can say that has not been an issue at all in working with Mariah. It can be really hard to find providers who are truly supportive and are interested in helping you with what will help you have a healthier relationship with food and your body outside of just numbers, but that really is the approach taken here.
I would highly recommend Arbor Center for anyone but especially want to mention my experience for folks who may have had less than positive experiences when seeking help previously due to weight stigma, it's really transformative to work with people who are supportive, and Arbor Center definitely is.

My daughter and I found Mariah doing an internet search. I, as a parent was feeling lost and hopeless. Those feelings quickly changed into hope and promise immediately after our first session. Mariah was a perfect fit for my daughter, who was suffering with an eating disorder. She was more than just knowledgeable about poor relationships with food, she's an expert. My daughter clicked with her right away. She really took time to get to know her. She was also knowledgeable about medical impacts on the body and guided us to the appropriate steps to keep everything monitored with our pediatrician. Mariah referred us to a wonderful counselor and has helped my daughter have a better relationship with food. Together Mariah and my daughter work on goals and make new plans when things are not working. She has called, emailed, and texted us in-between sessions if needed.

I sought out Mariah specifically to assist me with my eating disorder, and she has been so welcoming and genuine. I have made great strides in my recovery thanks to Mariah’s programming, compassion, and ability to make nuanced changes to my treatment plan when needed. I cannot thank Mariah enough for her continued care and support as I navigate the road to recovery!

Mariah shared with me the lessons of intuitive eating and gave me the tools that completely changed how I think about food and being healthy. She took a holistic approach to my nutrition, rather than focusing on a specific diet. She listened to me each step of the way, and I felt like it was a collaborative effort. I looked forward to our weekly check ins.

The support I feel from Jessica is unmatched. I feel like I have no hesitations about being honest and open and it has provided a very safe space for all of my forward progress as well as hurtles. My relationship with food and my confidence and comfort in my own body has significantly changed for the better. Being able to talk through my struggles and work to make things easier has had an amazing impact on my life.

My experience here has been nothing but amazing. When I first started my Anorexia recovery journey, I had no idea where to even start, and now I’m at a spot I couldn’t imagine getting to on my own. Mariah offered a friendly and safe space to share my experiences, and get feedback and help to recover. She has been there every step of the way and does an amazing job at separating you from your eating disorder.

Life changing! Mariah is incredible. She has a wealth of information, is willing to go at the speed you are comfortable with and is extremely empathetic. She is more than a standard dietitian. If you are struggling with an eating disorder or body image issues and find yourself going in circles do yourself a favor and see her. Also for those who have experienced trauma and are in treatment for it you will find that working with Mariah ties in nicely with it. Very grateful I found her!

When I stated working with Mariah, I was fairly deep in the throws of my restrictive eating disorder, and only just beginning to see that my "health" focused lifestyle was just that - an ED and anything but healthy. I'm now miles ahead in progress from that person I once was, and though I still have many miles to go, I'm confident that a full recovery is in my future thanks to working with Mariah. Our sessions together were informative, productive, encouraging, and all-around comforting. Mariah is knowledgable and compassionate, and it was clear from the get go that she cared; evident in her always asking the right questions and taking the time and effort to learn my story and the ever so complex aspects of my ED. If you're looking to overcome your restrictive eating disorder or disordered eating habits and heal your relationship with food, body, and exercise via an anti-diet and weight-inclusive framework, working with Mariah is the way to go!

We found Mariah to help in our daughter's eating disorder recovery. Our daughter was able to develop a trusting relationship with her easily as Mariah is empathetic, relateable and knowledgeable. She was able to help us with an individualized food plan while working with our daughter toward intuitive eating, improving her relationship with food, and improving body image. She understands the ups and downs in the recovery process and responds to these dynamics quickly and carefully. We have seen quite a few eating disorder professionals throughout this journey and by far, she is one of the best.

My experience with Rebecca has been really positive. She is really kind and has been patient even while life circumstances have impacted eating. She's helped me come up with strategies to still be able to eat when anxiety or trauma symptoms are making it difficult. We often bring the focus back to how eating is what allows my body to do the things I enjoy doing, which can help to maintain motivation. I want to be able to push my body on hikes and backpacking trips, and I have to be in a stable place in order to do that safely. That gives me a clear reason to try to get my intake to be in a safe and stable place. I like that the work always comes back to my values and my motivators.

I want to emphasize the true value and impact that Mariah has had on my life. With the tools that Mariah taught me, I made transformational lifestyle changes at home that benefited both me and my husband. We talk more openly about our health and support each other in making health choices. Part of those health choices include learning how to find balance and satisfaction, rather than associating food as bad or good. We feel that we now have a sustainable new lifestyle.
